On Wednesday, the whole school enjoyed a morning celebrating the Hindu festival of Diwali. During the morning, the children heard the story of Rama and Sita as well as experiencing some of the activities that take place during Diwali. The children learned how Rangoli patterns are used to welcome guests into the home and made their own Rangoli design. They all made a traditional lantern and learned how candles can be made from wool and wax.
Henna tattoos were designed and some children enjoyed having their designs applied to their skin. They also got to try a range of Indian deserts and sweets which were very different to the sweets we are used to.
The whole school was split into 4 groups of mixed ages, it was lovely to see the older children working with the younger children. I think everybody had a wonderful time and learnt lots about the festival of Diwali.
