Welcome all new parents!

FOWSA (Friends of Wawne Primary School)

Every parent is automatically a member of this successful and active organisation.  We are a small group (committee) of parents who organise fun and interesting events for the children and families at the school to raise funds.  Primarily, these are focused on providing essential assistance to the school, but are also a lot of fun.  The money we raise goes to various areas of the school such as new technology, new reading books for all levels, playground markings, coaches for trips, play trail and the fantastic new foundation area, to name a few!

We provide every new child with a FOWSA book bag and water bottle.  If you are on Facebook, we have a Facebook page that will keep you up to date with all the latest happenings at the school.  It has information and photographs of our upcoming fundraising events and notices. Parents use it to share school related information.  It’s simply ‘FOWSA – Wawne Primary School’. If you type FOWSA Wawne Primary School into the search bar we will come up.  Request to join the school and one of the admins will admit you.

These are the types of events we organise throughout the year:

  • Movie nights for the children
  • Mother’s Day flower sales
  • Easter chocolate Bingo
  • Easter church raffle, free tea, coffee, buns & treats for the kids
  • Collection of clothing donations to be weighed for cash
  • FareShare Scheme (limited places available)
  • Easyfundraiding.org (an internet shopping scheme)
  • Halloween Party
  • Stalls at Wawne Show
  • Tea parties, buy and eat cake!
  • We have a donations jar in the entrance to the foyer
  • Christmas Service Refreshments
  • Christmas play raffles
  • Discos
  • Chocolate raffle
  • Christmas party

We also run a FareShare scheme we have called ‘The helping hands scheme’ as it provides much needed help in raising funds for FOWSA and provides parents with food items such as bread, juice, teabags, coffee, cereal, canned foods, desserts, biscuits, pastries, assorted fruit and vegetables etc.

FareShare is an organisation that provides quality surplus food products from supermarkets and the food and drinks industry which would historically have been put into landfill. It redistributes it to organisations working in the community like us.  We pay a yearly fee to be part of this scheme which helps other charities such as homeless shelters and women’s refuges.  The monthly payment of £8.00 is paid on the first Wednesday of each month. The collection date is every Wednesday 3.15pm in the school hall term time only.  We have 24 memberships available.  We currently have two places available.

FOWSA has been running this scheme for several years now. We have a fantastic supply of foods and even better a base income which helps us to support the school and children with activities, travel and equipment.

‘Helping Hands’ helps you, it helps the school, it helps us, it helps the community and helps the environment.  Everyone benefits.

You will be made very welcome at any event you attend that has been organised by FOWSA.  Details of activities and events will be advertised via newsletters, Facebook and the Wawne Gazette.

If you would like to join our thriving group, we can be found in the playground most mornings and afternoons, or ask at the school office and they will put you in touch with us.  We also have parent helpers who are not on the committee, but like to help when they can, which is amazing for us during busy events.  If you think you don’t have time to commit but would like to help when possible then we would gratefully accept your contribution.  Give it a go, it’s fun and great to be involved with the school.
