Governors Info and Duties

The Governing Body have responsibility for raising standards of achievement in the school. They hold senior leaders to account, seek external views of the school and use a range of information to set the strategic direction.

The Governing Body is made up of community governors, parent governors and staff governors, and are appointed by the members of the academy trust board based on a skills audit which ensures a range of expertise and experiences across the governing body.

All Governors can be contacted through the school. Copies of the minutes from Part A of the Governing Board meetings are available upon request.

Governor’s Strategic Vision 2021-2026

One of the key roles of the Governing Body is to set the strategic direction for Wawne Primary School and to undertake long term development planning for the future. In setting the strategic direction for the school, Governors are looking forward and envisaging what the school will look like in 5 years’ time.

In developing our strategic vision, Governors take into consideration the views of all stakeholders to construct a set of ambitious goals that embody that vision.

Our Vision

To create a culture of high expectation, success, respect and diversity so that pupils can develop into confident young people with a sense of self-worth, who believe they can have an influence in the world.

To achieve our vision, we have set the following goals for the school:

  • To provide excellent teaching and learning for all so that every child achieves their full potential and becomes a productive member of the local and wider community.
  • To be recognised as the school of choice for our local community and surrounding area.
  • To link home and school through the development of a learning community.
  • To provide effective leadership and governance as a lever for school improvement.

We believe this will be achieved by earning a reputation for excellence in everything we do by:

  • Providing a safe and secure environment in which all pupils thrive.
  • Creating resilient learners who achieve excellent academic, moral, spiritual and social outcomes.
  • Promoting high standards of behaviour which reinforce mutual respect, tolerance and understanding of what it is to be a citizen, not only of the school but of local, national and international society.
  • Creating a broad and balanced curriculum which is exciting, adventurous and engaging, and meets the needs of all our children.
  • Building cultural capital through an awareness of the cultural diversity of our country and the world by engaging with an extensive range of groups from the wider community.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with all our parents and carers so that they can support their children in all aspects of their learning.
  • Recruiting, retaining and developing the best classroom practitioners and school leaders

and through

  • Visionary leadership and governance.

Hello and welcome to the Governors Section.

I am Janet Wobey and I am Chair of the Governing Body of Wawne Primary. The governors are a mixture of parents, school staff and others from the local community who between us have a wide range of skills and backgrounds. What brings us together us is our strong commitment to providing the very best education for all our children.

We attend formal meetings at least three times per term to discuss the work of the school, where we are going and how improvements can be made. On top of this, we often visit the school and can be seen in school helping in classes, on special days and on school trips.

This is an exciting time to be involved with Wawne Primary and the governors are proud to be associated with the school.
