We will be looking at stories, information texts and poetry linked with our topic. This will include writing diary entries, leaflets and poems. Your child will have the opportunity to read books of their choice, but will also be taking part in Guided Reading.

We will continue to look at improving our sentence  structure in Grammar lessons focusing on the use of punctuation and using interesting verbs, adjectives and adverbs in writing.  We will   encourage the children to understand and use grammatical terminology.

Our focus this term is handwriting and spelling. Spellings will focus on words from the Year 3/4 spelling list and will be given out on Friday, then tested the following Friday.

It is very important that you continue to hear your child read, talking about the books and encouraging them to think about the stories.

Maths

We will be working on number skills looking at written methods for multiplication and division, measurement involving length, perimeter and area and also fractions and decimals. We will encourage the children to develop their reasoning skills throughout these areas of learning.

The children will have a weekly times tables test working their way through the times tables. The children will     initially consolidate their learning of tables already taught before moving on to new tables. We encourage the      children to practice these as often as possible in school and at home.

Please remember:

Spellings are given on Fridays and tested on the following Friday.

Times tables test will be every Wednesday. The children can log on to Times  Tables Rock Stars to practice these at home.

We encourage the children to read at least 3 times a week. Please write in your child’s diary to say that they have read at home.

Please remember water bottles and book bags every day.

The children must also bring their P.E kits at the beginning of the week to be left in school until Friday and ensure that earrings are removed on P.E days.

4th February 2019- PE- Dance

During PE lessons this term, the children have been developing their movement skills through dance. For the last couple of weeks, we have been looking at the Street Dance style and developing a range of movements and performing these to each other.

This week because of the icy weather, we have been doing dance linked to winter sports. We looked at creating movements associated with travelling through the snow, snow boarding and slalom skiing. The children had a great time exploring different movements and finding ways to travel around the room.  Have a look in the Class 2 gallery to see some photos of the children performing.
